Famine at Movieland

It is a dry season for movie goers as movie makers have shut shop and waiting for the cricket season to end. No major releases since Tanu weds Manu (which is doing pretty well). No production house attempting to compete with cricket, this spells agony for the movie fan. It does not end with world cup. After a gap of 6 days the 4th season of IPL kicks off and will carry on till end of May.

Dont expect any movie to release in such a small window. At least you will be able to see a great deal of actors cheering for their teams. But we prefer to see them on the giant screen.

Hope we get to see some quality good movies after IPL Let our cricketers get some rest as well.

7 Khoon Maaf (Feb 18th 2011) Vishal Bharadwaj

Easily one of the most anticipated movies of recent times. 7 Khoon Maaf is an intruiging, dark almost comical kind of a truly special movie. Vishal Bhardwaj has repeatedly proven he is a master at creating crime based dark movies. Priyanka Chopra gets a role of a lifetime to share screen with seven different actors playing her husbands. Maybe it won't be as challenging as playing 12 different characters opposite a lone hero (What's your Rashee) but surely a dream role.
Eventhough everybody is aware of the storyline I would be surprised if there are no twists in this one. Whether the movie is good or bad only time will tell. But personally I love the feel of this one and am pretty sure the treatment given would be special. I am impressed with the website as well.
Not to forget the male leads (if you can call them that), a mixture of known and a few unknown faces.
Unfortunately the movie release coincides with the start of the Cricket World Cup. That should not affect the movie maniacs but there will be a general dip in collections.
I want to catch the first show on friday. Hope it turns out well.

Patiala house (Feb 11th 2011)- Nikhil Advani

First release of Akshay Kumar in 2011, Patiala House does seem rather interesting. At least it does not look like the recent slapstick humour in Akshay Kumar's comedy movies. This one looks more like a Namastey London than a Chandni Chowk maybe due to the presence of Rishi Kapoor.

A sports movie with a romantic angle and a lot of family drama is what the movie looks like from the promos. This one does give Akshay a chance to do some serious acting instead of resorting to stunts and buffoonery.
Anushka Sharma adds life to every scene she is in. Akshays potrayal is more subtle. Of course there will be special appearances by some cricketers. The father son conflict seems to be the key to the plot. How the film does will depend a lot on how convincing this conflict appears.
This is important for Nikhil Advani as well. he cannot rest on the success of Kal ho na ho forever. He also owes the viewers after putting them though Chandnichowk.
Without much competition patiala house should get a decent opening. World Cup season is starting so the next month or so is generally not a good time for movies. Wishing the team success
